Jóhann Jóhannsson has the score, but the trailers to Warner Bros. Oct. 6 release Blade Runner 2049 use remixes of the Vangelis score from the 1982 film. Both the early teaser and the official trailer released May 8 were cut by AV Squad and music supervisor Angel Mendoza, who worked with Los Angeles producer and artist schwarzmodul, whose specialty in dark, ambient sound made him a natural fit for the dystopian world imagined by writer Philip K. Dick and brought to life in the original film by Ridley Scott.

Set 30 years after the events of the first film, this update stars Robin Wright, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto and Ryan Gosling as LAPD officer K, who “unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos.”

Also in October, Jóhannsson’s work will be showcased in Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller Mother!, a Paramount release.

Jóhannsson was twice nominated for Academy Awards — for 2014’s amazing The Theory of Everything, which won the ASCAP Award for Best Film Score and for 2015’s Sicario. He received BAFTA noms for those two, as well as 2016’s Arrival.

Jóhannsson is repreesnted by the Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency and SpectreVision Music Management’s Tim Husom.

UPDATE: In September 2017 it was publicly reported that Jóhannsson had dissociated from Blade Runner 2049, following news in July that Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch had been brought on as a team to join him.
