Kara-Lis Coverdale’s day job as organ player at the St John Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church in Montreal provides celestial inspiration for the 28-year-old, who has released three solo recordings, including this year’s Aftertouches, out on Sacred Phrases. Her New Age stylings prompted The Guardian to describe Coverdale as “one of North America’s most exciting young composers, making music that picks apart violence and digital alienation – where ecstatic ambient passages are menaced with noise and glossy electronic chirps.” She’s performed in London with electronic artist Tim Hecker and collaborated with experimental producer Lee Bannon.
