The Oasis doc Supersonic will get a one-night release in U.S. theaters on Wednesday, Oct. 26, according to the film’s stateside distributor, A24. The idea is apparently to “event” the bigscreen availability, leveraging that marketing and awareness with a DVD release immediately thereafter. The film will get its world premiere in the U.K. on Oct. 2, with simultaneous screenings in London and the band’s hometown of Manchester.

The Brits are impressed by the heroic effort put forth by Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher to attend both premieres,  helicoptering from the city on the Thames to Manny where he and director Mat Whitecross will partake in Q&A.

Meanwhile, big brother Noel Gallagher, the band’s lead guitarist and songwriter, has been conspicuously absent from promotional activities surrounding the release. That includes the major sales push at Cannes, where Liam crushed it on the Croissette, where his hair had him mistaken for Sascha Baron Cohen. The ensuing media stir traversed from France to England, India and Australia.  (Worth noting that immediately following Cannes, Liam emerged with a crew cut.)

Not to be outdone, Noel took to Instagram to share that he ran into Robert de Niro in the South of France, and the Raging Bull star didn’t know who he was. The carping continued on Twitter, where Liam took to attacking Noel for neglecting to help promote the film. Ahhh, just like the the good old days when the brothers Gallagher were regularly slinging insults (when not physically trading blows).

I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, though I suspect Whitcross will try to have the epic music validate the bandmates’ interpersonal antics, which really ought to stand on their own, as theater-of-the-absurd. Oasis is an enigma wrapped in a riddle, but I’m not sure how productive it will be to try to reconcile the two.
