Director Nate Parker stars as Nat Turner, a literate slave who spreads enlightenment and leads his people to rebellion, circa 1831. The Hollywood Reporter called Henry Jackman’s score “unusually varied,” and “draws upon multiple musical traditions and references to fine effect.” The ScoreIt.org blog called Jackman a Hans Zimmer mentee who is “versatile, busy and omnipresent.” His credits include two Pirates of the Caribbean sequels, Abe Lincoln Vampire Slayer, Captain America Civil War and Money Monster, among many others. His work on Birth of a Nation draws on a gospel choir, a children’s choir, numerous soloists and a symphony orchestra.
