Jazzman Terence Blanchard scores this Spike Lee retelling of the Lysistrata legend, set in violence-torn Chicago. The film, produced by Amazon Studios and set for distribution in December from Lions Gate Releasing, has already generated a bit of controversy due to its title — a mash-up of Chicago and Iraq (where fewer U.S. special forces troops have lost their lives than have victims of homicides on the streets of Chi-town, according to the trailer).

Chi-Raq stars Nick Canon, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Hudson and, as Lysistrata, newcomer Teyonah Parris.

Blanchard’s previous features include Spike Lee’s Inside Man, Mike Binder’s Black or White and the George Lucas-produced Red Tails.
