Composer Danny Elfman teamed with Tyler, the Creator, to come up with a new version of the classic “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” for the animated film Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, released by Universal Pictures Nov. 9. The film also contains Tyler’s original song, “I Am the Grinch,” which plays over the end credits, which Tyler the Creator wrote and produced, as well as performed, with Elfman helping with the arrangement.
The songs are featured on The Grinch (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), which released by Columbia Records. The 13-track album also includes Tyler’s collaboration with Academy Award-nominated composer Danny Elfman on their reimagined version of “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.” The collection also features holiday tracks from Run-DMC, Pentatonix, Jackie Wilson, The Brian Setzer Orchestra, The Supremes, Buster Poindexter and His Banshees of Blue, and Nat King Cole. The full track list is below.
This new adaptation of the beloved book by Dr. Seuss tells the story of a cynical grump, voiced by Oscar®-nominated actor Benedict Cumberbatch, who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, inspiring and visually stunning, The Grinch, in theaters beginning today, tells a universal story about the redemptive power of kindness and the true spirit of Christmas. Grammy Award winning artist Pharrell Williams, who earned an Oscar nomination for his original song “Happy” from Illumination’s Despicable Me 2, narrates the film.
Elfman also got two of his own tunes on the soundtrack (tracklist below). Additionally, the full underscore by Elfman was released by Universal’s Backlot Music.
