The Dark Tower, with music by composer Tom Holkenborg, was the number one film for the weekend of Aug. 4, earning $19.5 million for distributor Sony in North America, according to Comscore.
The fantasy horror film from the mind of Stephen King the film stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, a gunslinger on a quest to protect the Dark Tower – a mythical structure which supports all realities – and Matthew McConaughey as his nemesis, Walter O’Dim, the Man in Black. The film also stars Jackie Earle Haley and is directed by Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel.
The film, which cost an estimated $60 to produce, made $8 million overseas, according to Box Office Mojo, for a total of $27.5 million.
Holkenborg, who also goes by the name Junkie XL, previously worked with Arcel on The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, for which Arcel wrote the screenplay.
