Run the Jewels’ epic 2016 track “Legend Has It” is the backing track to Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, scheduled for a Feb. 16, 2018, release from the Walt Disney Company.
Ludwig Göransson has the score. The Swedish composer is best known in the U.S. for his work on the sitcoms Community, Happy Endings, and New Girl, as well as for the film Fruitvale Station, which won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award in the dramatic category at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. He has collaborated with actor, comedian and musician Donald Glover on the Childish Gambino albums.
Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright and Winston Duke. It follows the story of T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But an old enemy reappears, T’Challa, as Black Panther, finds his mettle tested and (in the best super-hero tradition!) the entire world at risk.
Marvel’s Kevin Feige produces, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole wrote the screenplay.
