The Motion Picture Sound Editors honor the best of the year’s sound and music editing for film and television on February 19 at the 64th Annual Golden Reel Awards, taking place at the Westin Bonaventure in Los Angeles.

Director and screenwriter Guillermo del Toro is honored with this year’s MPSE’s Filmmaker Award, with supervising sound editor and sound designer Harry Cohen receiving the Career Achievement Award.

Although not every nominated project included a music editor in its credits — with foley, dialogue and sound editing claiming the bulk of the attention — there are a number of categories that specifically focus on music, which nominees are listed below.

In addition, the documentary category was big on music contenders this year, with Ron Howard’s The Beatles: Eight Days a Week–  The Touring Years among the awards contenders (music editor, Melissa Muik). Also, The Music of Strangers: Yoyo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble (supervising sound editor, Peter Horning).

The doc fest also features the highly pedigreed Before the Flood, a climate change pic from the National Geographic Channel produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Fisher Stevens, with music composed by Gustavo Santaolalla, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (music editor, Ren Klyce; assistant music editor, Dustin Mosely; apprentice music editor Nick Docter).
