The Utah Valley Symphony will perform live to screen with the short film The Snowman. The film, with original orchestration scored by Howard Blake, was nominated for an Academy Award in 1982. It is based on the 1978 picture book of the same name.
The 26-minute film has no dialogue, using only images, music and one lyric song — “Walking On Air” — to tell the story.
Bryce Rytting, the conductor and music director of the Utah Valley Symphony, told the HeraldExtra.com that he plans to “follow the same score, but we’ll have about 50 musicians playing — about four times larger than the studio recording. We have a lush strings section and talented soloists, so everything will sound richer and fuller than the soundtrack.”
