Licensed To Ill is the new musical about white rappers the Beastie Boys, staging at the Camden People’s Theatre in London, Nov. 23-Dec. 12.

Presented by Simon Maeder and Adam El Hagar present the story of “hiphop’s most notorious pranksters” using a combination of live music and DJ-ing. Audiences will journey with Mike D, MCA and AdRock – the Beastie Boys – as they go from teenage punk rockers to international rapping legends through the scene of late ’80s New York to early ’90s LA and through to the globalization of hiphop.

The Camden People’s Theater, which is a co-producer, takes pains to describe this as “an unofficial production.”  Maeder and El Hagar have their own companies ( Superbolt Theatre and d’Animate, respectively) but were looking for an opportunity to join forces on something fun, yet personal to them. In tandem, they’ve created “a new style of theater that mixes rapping, DJ-ing, physical comedy and even puppetry to create the eclectic, hilarious style that a show about the Beasties deserves,” the CPT announcement states.
