U.K. Classical Charts Rupture Over ‘Rapture’

The Playstation game “Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture” allows users to explore an abandoned city.

The video game score for “Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture” was listed, then yanked, from the U.K.’s “Official Classical Albums Chart,” after it was said to be “ineligible” and included in error. This due not to lack of sales, but to the fact that “soundtracks performed by single and various artists are ineligible.” The move prompted a Twitter tirade, documented by Engadget, which recorded “Rapture” composer/director Jessica Curry’s disappointment. To make matters worse, the Official Chart made the same mistake the following week, erring with The Complete Harry Potter Film Music by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, also yanked. Critics are calling it snobbery. Chart defenders say the music in question is represented on other Official charts.
