John Debney will compose the score for the Mel Gibson-directed Hacksaw Ridge, starring Sam Worthington, Vince Vaughan and Andrew Garfield in a tale of a WWII American Army medic who refused to kill people and became the first conscientious objector to win a Congressional Medal of Honor. The Lionsgate release is due out in 2016. Debney received an Oscar nomination for his work on Gibson’s 2004 film The Passion of the Christ.
Debney will also be heard next year on Walt Disney’s refresh of The Jungle Book, from director Jon Favreau’s refresh on the 1967 classic. Songs will reportedly include Bill Murray, who voices Baloo, singing “The Bare Necessities,” and “Do or Die,” an original tune by Jared Leto, performed by his band 30 Seconds to Mars.
Busy, busy! Debney’s 2016 output additionally includes Focus Features Christ the Lord, the story of Jesus’ childhood.
