Ferrell and Wiig Seek Musical ‘Profits’

Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig are teaming on a musical send-up of corporate motivational presentations. Inspired by the book Everything Is Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age of Industrial Musicals, the score will be written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the team behind the tunes of Broadway’s smash hit Hairspray, as well as the 2013  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The 2013 book explores the practice of brands like Exxon, Coca Cola and Ford of putting together lavish entertainments to motivate employees and customers at corporate events. Marc Platt (La La Land) will produce from a script by Steven Levenson. A director has not yet been attached.

Though details have yet to be revealed, we’re guessing that the film is going to showcase Ferrell’s been known to bust a tune, warbling at the 2008 Oscars, and performing “Por Ti Volare” in Stepbrothers.  Musical talent runs in the family — his father, Roy Lee Ferrell Jr., was a keyboardist and saxophonist for The Righteous Brothers. And everyone knows he plays a mean cowbell.

Wiig has done quite a bit of singing on Saturday Night Live, and performed part of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” in 2013’s The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Both have proven moves on the dance floor, making this a must-see.
