Scary Movie Music

Eleven scary movies made even scarier by scary music — “shrieking violins, plaintive cellos, and spooky percussive sounds” — is an apt subject for an article on All Hallows Eve,  so our thanks to WQRX, the New York City classical station for their spooky movie music roundup. Remember Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells and the creepiness it lent to The Exorcist? That is one of many fine examples that include Stanley Kubrick’s use of Bela Bartok’s Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta to add chill to his epic The Shining. Read on!
